Kholo Gardens, Muirlea
Kholo Gardens is a peaceful riverside park at 243 Riverside Drive, Muirlea, on the Brisbane River in Ipswich's north-east. With open lawns, a lily pond, a historic church and a function centre, it's a popular spot for weddings and relaxed family get-togethers.

Having a party at Kholo Gardens
The gardens have plenty of open kick-around space, with picnic tables, seats and shelters for the grown-ups. Zone 1 is the main bookable lawn and holds up to 120 people, but it has no power, so plan on a generator if you need electricity. Zone 1 is also popular for ceremonies, and Council only issues permits there for 2.5 hours at a time.

The church and function centre
The historic church and the air-conditioned function centre can each be booked for up to 50 people, and both have power. The function centre has a kitchen with a fridge, oven, stove and urn, but you'll need to bring your own cookware, crockery, cutlery and linen.
Picnics, BBQs and the river
There are BBQs, drinking water, public toilets and recreational pathways, plus a pond and water feature to wander past. Council has noted that some BBQs are currently out of action and that all river access points are temporarily closed for public safety.
