6 Family Activities to Bring the Fun in Christmas This Year

Christmas is a yearly tradition that people all over the world get to enjoy. Lately, however, it seems that the COVID-19 scare is consistently putting off regular celebrations of popular holidays like summer escapades, Easter egg hunts, and more. Health and social protocols have changed how we do things and interact with other people. Will it also change our family Christmas tradition?

There might be physical distancing and other public measures that might tweak the way we celebrate Christmas this year, but that does not stop us from spending the holidays with our families.

Christmas is not postponed this 2020 and here are some family activities you can do to bring fun in Christmas amidst the global pandemic:

1. Baking Christmas treats together. If you have kids, this is a good time to teach them how to bake or cook. Start with simple recipes like making cookies. Let them be hands-on when it comes to baking. Kids can help measure and put ingredients in a bowl. You can also help them mix, roll the cookies in a ball, or cut the dough using cookie cutters. To make it a family affair, you can hold a cookie decorating contest. Announce the winner on Christmas dinner and let the winning cookie designer have an extra gift as an incentive.

2. Making Christmas ornaments. What’s the most highly anticipated traditional activity of the season? Christmas tree decorating. Kids and grown-ups enjoy setting up decorations and finally putting a star on an angel on top of the tree. You can make this tradition more special this year by letting the kids and other members of the family make their ornament that they can hang on the branches. Search for do-it-yourself decorations for the December season online.

3. Create a hot chocolate bar. Nothing lifts the spirits more than a mug of hot chocolate drink on a Christmas morning. Dedicate one table for a hot chocolate bar. To make the bar even more special, put canisters of add-ons so both kids and adults can choose their toppings for hot chocolate. Some popular ones include cinnamon, tiny marshmallows, dark chocolate shavings, caramel, and peppermint sticks or peppermint sprinkles. Yum!

4. Arrange a movie day. Spend your December 25th morning watching well-loved Christmas films for the whole family. Your kids can watch Home Alone, A Christmas Story, Klaus, or Arthur Christmas if they haven’t yet. If you have already prepared the hot cocoa bar, the kids and family members can enjoy a cozy morning with hot chocolate in hand. Having your home-baked cookies to go along with the drink and the movies is also a good idea.

5. Organize a Christmas candy cane hunt. Any household would not run out of candy canes and it’s time to put those extra canes to good use. Let the children and adults play candy cane hunt on Christmas day. Think of Easter egg hunting – but with candy canes!

6. Get a jumping castle inflatable. If you want an even more exciting way to spend your Christmas day, get a jumping castle hire Brisbane inflatable. Check your local bouncy castle rental company for a Christmas themed inflatable that would surely surprise your kids.

With these family activities and the jumping castle hire Brisbane inflatable, Christmas will surely still be a fun family event this year.
